At Elite, they dismiss into Veteran recruits. With Morgh's editor you can go in and change their headgear if you like, which is what I did. Shield Maidens also wear the inferior red Nasal Helmet, which again is a strong indication that the equipment in Silverstag is very much unbalanced. I like the Noble Nordic Armour very much for the looks, but in terms of stats it's clearly inferior for its weight class. But they are still just T4-T6 medium infantry, starting out at a measly Level 12, though decently armed and armoured. Require Peasant recruits, but at Elite (T6) they dismiss into Veterans. The Retinue Archers also wear the sub-par Mail Shirts from vanilla, instead of the much superior Chain Mail and Byrnie Mail introduced by other submodules and used in Silverstag. This makes them mediocre, thanks to the slower rate of fire. Naturally, Peasants are Peasant recruits all the way. Early in the game, you could hire them to hold a shield wall cheaply. The Peasants, however, have decent basic spear and shield, and hand axe. Peasant: Like the Hunter and Bondsman, the T2-T4 Peasant wears only the lightest clothing (think early Season 1 Ragnar Lothbrok in his farmer days). Cost-efficient garrison troops (though bear in mind that in Silverstag, unlike in vanilla, the AI no longer factors in pure numbers when deciding aggro, but will take into account troop quality). Peasant recruits.Д«ondsman: Also T1-T3 and practically unarmoured Peasant soldiers, with only Hatchets and no shields. Elite Nordic Hunters, if left alone to attack, can sometimes pull off surprising kills. Hunter: T1-T3 archer unit, with no special abilities and practically nothing for armour, but surprisingly competent archers at Elite (proficiency 225, Power Draw 4). (I've realized that the design philosophy appears to give no special abilities to most non-affiliated troops, so unless I state specifically otherwise, the units have no special abilities.) More on this in specific unit description. The troop tree, however, does offer enough options to make your experience more varied, if you like, and the Formations AI module makes those options quite viable. Huscarl blob: Probably the Best Blob in the World. Sometimes you need cavalry, or archers for everything else, there's Huscarl blob. Just as in vanilla, tactics will tend to be one-dimensional - a Huscarl blob is a Huscarl blob, good as gold around the world. This makes the Nord experience for human players quite newbie-friendly, in terms of getting familiar with the 0.26 troop tree system. The Nords have many pathways to veterancy for their recruits, unlike the Sarranids and Rhodoks. Do not use the Disband function on your party screen for this - that will cause the unit to simply cease existing. To obtain troops that require Veteran recruits, either wait and fulfill conditions for Veteran recruits to spawn in the town/castle, or train up certain troop types until they become Veteran-recruit quality, then dismiss them in your town/castle to release Veteran recruits into the pool.

This nomenclature in no way clearly indicates whether the unit is Peasant or Veteran quality! Currently, though, culture-switching can be done at will with no penalty.ДЄlmost all units are promoted this way: base > Veteran > Elite. Some units are available to any player, but some can be recruited only if you have joined that faction, or have started your own kingdom and adopted that faction's culture. I might change my mind on this when I get around to playing Khergits. Horses are separately counted and limit the availability of mounted troops, but in practice there are usually way more horses than you could ever want. Generally, T5 and/or Level 20 and above are considered veteran, but this is only a rule of thumb and the current troop trees contravene this frequently. There are 3 kinds of recruits: peasant, veteran and mercenary. Villages are much less important as recruitment centers than in vanilla. The types of troops available from villages is influenced directly by the kingdom slavery policy.

Units come in tiers, from 1 to 9 (though generally T3-T4 is the lowest kind of battle-worthy troop type you will see). In v0.26, troops are recruited directly from towns and castles, and to a much lesser extent from villages. This is based upon my own gameplay experience and information gathering. I've decided to just put this information here in case anyone needs or wants it.
